Bathroom remodeling in St. Louis

Tight rooms with the most hidden work per square foot. Done right, they stay dry for decades.

Bathrooms are small, which makes people assume they are simple. They are the opposite. More plumbing, more waterproofing and more tile detail happens per square foot in a bathroom than anywhere else in a house, and every shortcut taken behind the tile shows up as a problem years later, usually in the ceiling below.

What this covers

  • Full gut and rebuild, or a targeted update
  • Shower and tub replacement, including tile showers with proper waterproofing
  • Vanities, tops, fixtures and mirrors
  • Tile: floor, walls, niches and curbs
  • Exhaust venting, lighting and outlet placement
How it goes

Three things that decide how this goes

01

Find out what is behind the wall

Older St. Louis housing stock hides a lot. We talk about what is likely back there before demo so surprises are budgeted for instead of becoming an awkward conversation halfway through.

02

Waterproof first, tile second

The assembly behind the tile is the part that determines whether the bathroom lasts. It is also the part nobody sees, which is exactly why it gets skipped.

03

Finish and walk it

Fixtures set, caulk lines clean, exhaust actually venting outside. We walk it together before I call it complete.

Questions

About bathroom remodeling

Tile shower or an acrylic unit?

Both are legitimate. An acrylic unit is faster and costs less. Tile costs more and takes longer, and it is the right answer when the shape is unusual or you want the room to look built rather than installed. I will tell you which one I would do in your space.

Can you fit a second bathroom in?

Often, if there is a way to get drain and vent to it. Basements and space under stairs are the usual candidates. Worth a look before you assume it cannot be done.

Will you find water damage?

In an older house, sometimes. If we do, you will see it and hear what it takes to fix before any decision gets made.
