Home additions in St. Louis

More square footage that reads as part of the house, not bolted onto the back of it.

An addition is the most structural thing most homeowners will ever commission, and the one where the difference between good and bad work is visible from the street forever. The goal is not just more room. It is more room that matches the roofline, the siding, the window proportions and the floor height of the house that was already there.

What this covers

  • Room additions, bump-outs and second-storey work where the structure supports it
  • Foundation and framing
  • Tying into existing roof, siding and window lines
  • Extending HVAC, electrical and plumbing into the new space
  • Permits and inspections coordinated as part of the job
How it goes

Three things that decide how this goes

01

Feasibility before drawings

Setbacks, structure and what the municipality will allow. Better to find out in week one that the plan needs to change than after you have paid for a full set of drawings.

02

Dry it in fast

Foundation, frame, roof, windows. Getting the new structure weather-tight quickly is what protects both the addition and the house it is attached to.

03

Make the seam disappear

The detail that matters is where new meets old: floor heights, trim profiles, siding courses, roof planes. That is the part people notice without knowing they are noticing it.

Questions

About home additions

Do I need drawings and permits?

For an addition, yes. That is a feature, not a hurdle. Permitted, inspected work is what protects you at resale and what makes an insurance claim straightforward if you ever need one.

Can you match the outside of an older house?

Usually very closely. Siding profiles, brick and window proportions can all be matched or sourced. Where an exact match is not available I will show you the closest option before we commit.

How disruptive is it?

Less than a kitchen for most of it, because the work happens outside the existing footprint until the two get connected. The connection week is the loud one.
